For some PCBA project, we need to purchase a special components--Wire.

We must pay much attention to customer specification. We should know length, color, diameter, the receptacle housing, coil terminal, cable tie all necessary. Some customers require UL certification mark on wire.

U.S. Safety Certification - U.S. UL certification is the most influential international product certification agency in product certification for electric wires, cables and related industries. It is known as its fire resistance and shock protection performance. Its authority and popularity in the entire wire and cable industry are irreplaceable. Therefore, whether for European customer, American customer, Japanese customer, or a well-known domestic business, they have put forward mandatory requirements for the wire and cable suppliers that they must pass UL certification, and it is also an essential for wire and cable manufacturers to reach the international market. In the domestic market, more than 1,500 manufacturers have obtained UL certification.

AWG

We usually see a word”AWG”

AWG (American wire gauge) is a standard that distinguishes the diameter of a wire and is also called a Brown & Sharpe wire gauge. This standardized wire gauge system began to be used in the United States in 1857.

The value in front of the AWG (eg, 24AWG, 26AWG) indicates the number of holes to pass before the wire forms the final diameter. The larger value, the more holes the wire passes through and the smaller the diameter of the wire.

The thicker wire has better physical strength and lower resistance, but the thicker wire, the more copper is needed to make the cable, which can lead the cable sinking more difficult to install, and more expensive.

The challenge in cable design is to use the smallest possible diameter wire (reduced cost and installation complexity) while ensuring that the maximum capacity of the wire is achieved at the necessary voltage and frequency. By this we could easily know diameter and Cross-sectional area of the wire.

Below is a example of customer wire specification:

An electro-mechanical used to join electrical terminations and create an electrical circuit. it consist of plugs (male-ended) and jacks (female-ended). The connection may be temporary, as for portable equipment, require a tool for assembly and removal, or serve as a permanent electrical joint between two wires or devices. An adapter can be used to effectively bring together dissimilar connectors. The electrical connectors usually used for manufacturing for power, signal and control applications. Connectors may join two lengths of flexible copper wire or cable, or connect a wire or cable to an electrical terminal. (Sourcing From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_connector  )

We also must notice the part of stripping the wire, how many inch, it is used for soldering into the PCB.

How to solder the wire into PCB?

pcb wiring

Preparation: Electric iron, solder (preferably rosin core), stripping pliers (can not be replaced with a knife or s

cissors).

1. Use wire strippers to strip the wire's insulation about 2~3mm, properly twist the wire, put it on the tin, and the other one, put the two wires together and add a little tin to the solder. Clean the dirt on the copper foil plate, use the

fine sandpaper to wipe the rust and oxidize.

2. Add a little rosin solder paste at the welding point.

3. Insert the components. The circuit board copper foil strips are covered with protective paint. Main wave soldering or flow soldering solder sticking copper foil strips due to mechanical force.

At the end, we use a cable tie, it’s small but necessary.

Cable tie, also known as tie, cable tie, lock belt. Divided by material, cable ties can generally be divided into nylon cable ties, stainless steel cable ties, spray stainless steel cable ties. There are many kinds of cable ties divided by function.

We did many project with wire soldered as below it’s not difficult but need much patient and check specification carefully:(they are for Finland and USA customer)
